Abstract

This article deals with teacher educators and their teaching portfolio in the North Rhine-Westphalian module German for Migrant Students (DSSZ). In a questionnaire study with N = 10 module coordinators and N = 46 teacher educators the current module structure, teacher educators’ backgrounds, course content and their views on the module are surveyed. It was found that the module is very heterogeneous in terms of its location, scope and teacher educators. Nevertheless, most teacher educators deal with very similar content in their module courses. Furthermore, the topics and activities very clearly reflect two module focal points: language-based subject teaching and language lessons with new immigrant learners. Based on the results, the main question is how more learning opportunities can be created as part of teacher education programs.
