Dealing with uncertainty and complexity as well as different values is playing an increasingly important role in discussions about future learning and educational processes, alongside the teaching of (specialized) knowledge and skills. This often involves the question of what skills pupils should have and how learning can be organized accordingly. Consequently, it is necessary for teachers to also deal with these challenges and be able to provide guidance on how to deal with them constructively and creatively. Based on these considerations, an innovative seminar concept was developed at the University of Hanover to create a space for prospective teachers to deal with these challenges in a resource-orientated way and to develop their own skills for dealing with them. The central element of this seminar is philosophizing as a method or approach, as this promotes dealing with ambivalences, ambiguities and dilemma situations. The seminar entitled ‘Philotastisch – Philosophischen Fragestellungen gemeinsam auf den Grund gehen’ is located in the subject of general education and is part of several seminars in the special education program at the University of Hanover, which can be attended by students as well as people with (intellectual) disabilities.
The seminar, which was originally developed as part of a third-party funded project, has now been consolidated and takes place annually. In this article, we present this seminar concept and discuss didactic principles as well as evaluations and experiences.
