Abstract

In primary science education, classroom management and instructional support as two dimensions of teaching quality may interact in a way that promote or hinder learning. Dealing with these interactions requires teachers to have professional knowledge as well as to perceive and interpret these interactions in the classroom. Therefore, a video-based virtual learning environment (VLE) was developed and evaluated in the project ProdiviS. The VLE aims to promote the multi-perspective professional vision of interactions between classroom management and instructional support in primary science education. The potential of a digital learning format is seen in the integration of classroom videos, the provision of individual support tools, and processing at the individual learning pace. This should enable a situated and adaptive promotion of multi-perspective professional vision.
In this paper, we present the VLE. Based on a conceptual review of the interac-tions between classroom management and instructional support, we describe the goals as well as the content and didactic design of the VLE. In addition, we report an evaluation with students.
