Abstract

The article documents the use of case vignettes in a course on linguistically responsive subject teaching, which was held in the summer semester 2020 for prospective teachers at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen. Based on the DaZKom model – a model of professional competence regarding German as a Second Language (GSL) – the use of the case vignettes is reflected upon. As part of a learning activity in the first phase of teacher training, the case vignettes used in the seminar are aimed at the facets “linguistic diversity in school” and “dealing with heterogeneity” within the DaZKom model. The use of case vignettes to convey and reflect on GSL-relevant content was inspired by various contributions in the context of the project “BeliefsMatter”. The aim was to promote language related beliefs that correspond to professional competence regarding GSL. A special focus was on beliefs regarding the use of heritage languages in subject teaching.
