Abstract

This paper presents an action-oriented learning opportunity for pre-service teachers at Hamburg University. The learning opportunity is the final session of the course Sprachbildender Unterricht in actu Unterrichtsinteraktion und Sprachdiagnostik, which we conducted digitally and synchronously for the first time in the winter term 2021/22. Around 170 third semester pre-service teachers of the Master’s teacher education program participated. With the learning opportunity we intended to integrate the two focal areas of the whole course:
classroom interaction and language diagnostics. In the session, the pre-service teachers systematically reflect on an excerpt from a videotaped and transcribed classroom conversation in a mainstream classroom. In doing so, they make references to the seminar content and apply the video sequence to develop a diagnostic perspective, both in relation to the teachers actions and focused on the students expressions. By employing the DaZKom structure model, we examine the learning opportunity in order to see which facets are particularly taken into account and are integrated by the participants due to our thematic approaches and higher education didactics. With reference to the DaZKom structure model, the learning opportunity primarily accentuates / highlights the dimension didactics, namely with the facet micro-scaffolding in the two sub-dimensions diagnosis and support.
