Abstract

The paper presents a discussion of the areas of critical race theory and theatre pedagogy and tries to find out how they could go together. After reflecting the terms ‚racism‘ and ‚critical race theory‘, it develops the argument that both areas have several aspects in common and their connection can be useful in teacher education. The theatrical instruments stem from the Theatre of the Oppressed which is based on the thoughts of Paulo Freire and his pedagogy. Thereupon, the article presents a didactical concept for implementing critical race theory in teacher education to confront future teachers with the topic ‚racism‘ and their own involvement. The workshop can contribute to professional competencies in which teachers reflect their own involvement in racism and its structures.
