Abstract

Against the background of increasing globalization and social change, cultural education is becoming increasingly important for the acquisition of interdisciplinary key competences. In this context, schools as a learning location have particular potential with regard to the cultural participation of children and young people from disadvantaged social backgrounds. In order to successfully implement Arts Education in schools, teachers must have the appropriate knowledge and skills. The present article addresses the fact that only a few concepts of teacher education have so far been able to anchor aspects of Arts Education thematically. A unit introducing the topic of cultural education, consisting of two master's seminars on basic language education and one seminar on educational science, is presented. Part of this seminar unit are two work assignments that focus on the understanding of culture and cultural education by means of a photo documentation and a group work (World-Café) with subsequent poster design.
