Abstract

In this article we present a concept of the promotion of reading and spelling in primary school children. The SchmitS materials have been developed within the research project Biprofessional (funded by BMBF within the Qualitätsof-fensive Lehrerbildung). We decided to develop our own concept. The reason for this is that although the German writing system is very systematically structured, there is a lack of materials, which actually correspond with current linguistic and language didactic ideas. Therefore, we are going to describe essential aspects of the German writing system and the structure of the SchmitS materials. Conclu-sively, we report our first experiences with children’s promotion.
