Abstract

Practical studies are considered as a central element of teacher education. Although there are various  implementation types  of Inquiry-based Learning  with connection to practical studies in schools, it can be assumed it is aiming at supporting theory-based, research-based and practice-based reflection of classroom teaching experiences in practical studies. Against this background, the paper discusses Inquiry-based Learning in the first phase of teacher education. First, a conceptual understanding of  Inquiry-based Learning in teacher education is addressed. Furthermore, the paper outlines a teaching and learning concept in practical studies of a research-oriented type which has been implemented in the first phase of teacher education for  General Secondary Education of the  Association North-East (Vienna and Lower Austria) since the academic year 2016/17.
